My Olympic Kids

After the kids and I finish lunch, we often adjourn to our little sun room and the kids play for a bit on the slide and the swing while I offer encouraging comments from the couch. One day, I started pretending to be a play-by-play announcer -- saying things like, "She's up on the platform! She's thinking about her next move.... aaaaaand she's off!" in that really sports-announcer-ey kind of voice. The kids love this. Now they take turns (as much as two-year olds can take turns, anyway) doing tricks on the slide and the swing and the kid who isn't the official trick doer, watches from what I have taken to calling the judge's chair. It's kind of like our own little toddler Olympics. I think it's fitting since the Olympics are coming up in China this summer.

In any case, I manage to amuse myself along with the kids as I offer my commentary. For example, today, J was impatient for B to do her sliding trick and kept saying, "Go! Go! Go!" and so I said, "The judge from China is heckling the athlete! Uh oh! He's out of his chair! He's approaching the platform! This is unheard of! What will happen next?!!"

Maybe it was a "you had to be there" moment, but I'm telling you, it was hilarious. Yes, having twins has pushed me just a wee bit closer to crazy. But it's a good place to be.
